‘Wonder Woman' Cast News: Main Villain Ares To Be Played By 'Harry Potter' Actor David Thewlis

David Thewlis, who is best known for his role in the "Harry Potter" movies as Professor Lupin, will be playing the villain Ares in the new "Wonder Woman" movie. Ares will be the main villain in the upcoming film.

According to an exclusive report from the Batman-News, multiple sources say the main villain Ares will be a combination of CGI and practical effects. This is probably the reason also why he hasn't been seen in any of the recent trailers for the movie.

The report adds, though, that it shouldn't surprise people when he finally makes an appearance in the coming trailers for "Wonder Woman." Ares as the main villain was already revealed last month when Ciné Live, a French magazine Studio, did a feature about the movie.

Images of the new Wonder Woman action figure also confirmed that Ares will be the main villain, the report adds. The images include collectible pieces of Ares' armor.

Matt Dolloff of Screen Rant reported that the reveal of Thewlis as the main villain came during a test screening of "Wonder Woman" to an audience in California. Ares as the main villain for the movie has always made sense, because he is the Greek God of War, getting his power from death, destruction, and conflict.

Dolloff adds that the World War I setting of the film offers a lot of what Ares needs to gain power. And with Wonder Woman battling back, it sets up "one of the most compelling DC cinematic showdowns yet."

The news of Thewlis playing Ares is still not confirmed, though, Dolloff said. It's also possible that Danny Huston, the villain shown in the trailer playing a World War I German Officer, will also be playing Ares together with Thewlis. He will transform into Ares at one point in the movie.

"Wonder Woman" is set to premiere on June 2, 2017. Check out the trailer for the movie in the video below.
