In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day there are a number of events happening across the U..S. and in New York City. The day was established in 1986 as a national holiday to recognize King's work as one of the greatest civil rights leaders. The day occurs on Jan. 21, 2013 and happens every year on the third Monday in January around the time of his birthday on Jan 15.
