Rabbits Chew Through Car Wires at Denver International Airport Parking Lot

Rascally rabbits! A group of rabbits are wreaking havoc at Denver International Airport. The furry creatures are destroying cars in the parking lot by chewing on the wires.

Several rabbits have gotten into a bad habit of chewing on important car wiring such as brake lines, clutch line and other wiring, which is costing travelers hundreds of dollars in damage. Frequent travelers are begging airport officials to do something about the issue, CBS reports.

"When I had the trouble with the oil light coming on, the dealer told me the wires that controlled the air conditioning were chewed," travelers Ken Blum told CBS. Blum had to fix his car not one, but twice due to the damage the rabbits caused, which cost him about $700.

"I saw no signs...nothing to tell me, 'Hey, beware'," Blum told CBS4. "My insurance didn't cover it, the manufacturer didn't cover it."

Denver International Airport is home to about a hundred rabbits and this isn't the first time they've caused problems. CBS did a report in 1999 when the rabbits were chewing on the wires on de-icing equipment. Now they've turned to cars in the parking lot.

CBS reached out to the airport and officials said that only a small amount of people who park at the airport have complained about the rabbits damaging their cars. They also claim that agents for the United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services patrol the parking lot and remove the animals.

The rabbits aren't just a problem at the airport. Cars have been damaged at other private parking lots in the city. The owners said they've taken actions to keep the animals away such as putting up extra fencing and using coyote urine to scare them off.
