Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa becomes the latest Manchester United player to leave Old Trafford after he reportedly agreed to make a comeback stint with Borussia Dortmund, a souirce close to situation reported on Saturday.
Kagawa, who left the Bundesliga powerhouse for the Red Devils two years ago, has reportedly agreed on a four-year contract with Dortmund management ahead of his official transfer.
The Japanese international is just one of several players given the green light by Man United boss Louis Van Gaal to leave the club before the transfer window expires on September 1. According to the Daily Mail, Kagawa will be dealt to Dortmund on a £6.3million transfer fee.
"Manchester United flop Shinji Kagawa is set to complete his return to Borusssia Dortmund for £6.3million - just two years after leaving the German side. Kagawa will sign a four year contract with the Dortmund, who sold the Japanese playmaker to United in 2012 for £12million," the Daily Mail reported on Saturday.
Kagawa was bought by Man United in 2012 in the final season of Sir Alex Ferguson. He was considered a manfielder with a potential of becoming a major piece of the Red Devils future campaigns. However, injuries and inconsistencies under manager David Moyes prevented his career from taking off at Old Trafford.
"But injuries have stunted the midfielders progress, and after failing to fit into David Moyes' side last season, he has now been deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Louis van Gaal," the Daily Mail.
Kagawa's move to Dortmund should not come as a surprise, as manager Jurgen Klopp has been targeting to bring the Japanese back to the team after he fell out of Moyes and then Gaal's rotation. Although there's some interest from Spanish giant Valencia, the Japanese skipper wanted to reunite with the club that helped him become a target by Ferguson in the first place.
"When it became clear chances would continue to be limited under current manager Louis van Gaal, Dortmund seized their chance to lure him back the the Westfalenstadion"
Aside from Kagawa, Javier Hernandez is also reported to make his move to Italia Serie A powerhouse Juventus. The deal is expected to be completed on Monday.
