Otherwise known as the Schokoladenmuseum, this museum has partnered with chocolate manufacture Lindt since 2006. As you may have already guessed, this museum is all about chocolate, and those who are hoping to try a lot of chocolate will not be disappointed. Aside from the grand cafe where you can dine in and the shop where you can buy chocolates to bring home, there is actually free chocolate visitors can sample.

But is this museum all about just eating chocolate? Is it really worth the visit as part of the trip to Cologne?

More Than Just Eating Chocolate

To answer the first question, there is more to the Chocolate Museum than just eating chocolate. In fact, the museum has dedicated itself to educating visitors about the whole process of making chocolate.

From how cacao is harvested to the little bits of trivia about chocolate, all of these are covered in the exhibits present in the museum. One of the things that visitors will learn is that, believe or not, the chocolate sold in other European countries actually come from Germany.

But more than just having exhibits for visitors to read, the Chocolate Museum actually has a small chocolate factory within its premises. Visitors can witness the step by step process of making the sweet treat that everyone knows and loves.

Visitors can also witness how technology has greatly helped the manufacturing process by making it more convenient and efficient. In fact, there is a section where a machine will give visitors free chocolate.

Despite the convenience of technology, some things are just better with the human touch. Visitors are welcome to watch the museum's pastry chef as they create mouthwatering chocolate creations that can be purchased as well.

So is It Worth the Visit?

A trip to Cologne will not be complete without a visit to the Chocolate Museum. While it may be a more exciting place for those who love to eat chocolate, the museum has a lot of knowledge that it can impart even to those who don't like chocolate.

It's not everyday that you can see how chocolate is made, and the experience offered by the Chocolate Museum is one you shouldn't experience. Overall, it is a fun, informative, and very sweet experience that all visitors will definitely enjoy and remember.
