'Namor' Might Get Own Feature Film, Donnie Yen And Fans Campaigning For Actor To Play The Role

There are rumors that Marvel's "Namor the Submariner" is in development to have its own feature film. Now there are a few actors already vying to play the "Prince of Atlantis" and one of them is Donnie Yen, which is a fan favorite choice.

According to a report from ComicBook, fans of the martial artist want him to play the superhero character. In fact, there have been numerous Yen fansites tweeting the possibility of the Hong Kong actor as Namor.

The report adds that Yen seems to be interested in the idea as his official Twitter account is retweeting the requests, which shows pictures of the superhero side-by-side with pictures of the martial artist. Yen, who is having a breakout year in U.S. Cinema, will be a great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel has been lacking in representation, especially Asian males, so having Yen play the "Prince of Atlantis" would be great, according to the report. But will there actually be a movie in the first place?

The report said that there are signs that point to a movie to happen. Disney has several "Untitled Marvel Studios Film" on notice after the "Avengers: Infinity War" and one of them could be "Namor the Submariner."

Cooper Hood of Screen Rant, though, reports that one of the rumors for the debut of Namor in the MCU is for the superhero to be part of the "Inhumans" series on ABC. It would be surprising for Yen, though, to transition to television, even if it's just temporary.

Hood adds that Yen's role in "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and "xXx: The Return of Xander Cage" has brought him to the spotlight in The U.S. His role in these movies, and in the Ip Man 3 movie, also showed that, despite being 50-years old already, he is still capable of being an action star. Check out this official featurette of Donnie Yen's character in the "xXx" movie.
