The first "Taken" movie was a worldwide phenomenon, unlike its next two instalments. The fourth instalment of the franchise will be a TV series that focuses on how Bryan Mills (Clive Standen) grew to be who he is today, but will also have a hard time recapturing the magic.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the TV show's executive producer Matt Gross said the series will be more about the Mills the character. It won't particularly focus on how he develops his skills, but to understand him as a character, Gross adds.
Alex Cary, also the executive producer, adds that the "Taken" TV series will be a "modern-day" origin story and not just a prequel. "Creating this character from the ground up is what attracted me to the project," Cary said.
The report adds that the series' story will follow how Mills becomes who he is today, a killing machine. He was mentored by Christina Hart (Jennifer Beals) and the death of his sister was what pushed him to be the hero that he is.
Though the TV series will not be retro or nostalgic, some say it will still have a hard time recapturing the magic that made the first movie successful, according to Craig Elvy of Screen Rant. The first movie "Taken," starring Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills had an element that made it popular to the audience.
Elvy said that people who watched the first movie had an easy time to relate to the Mills that Neeson played. He adds that the aura of mystery surrounding the history of Mills in the movie also added to the intrigue that the audience has for him.
So making a TV series about Mills history would remove the aura of mystery that he has, he adds. The "Taken" TV series premieres on February 27 on NBC. Check out the trailer for the series in the video below.
