Fan-Made ROM Pokemon Prism Shuts Down Before Release

Pokemon has become one of Nintendo's greatest franchises. Developed by Game Freak, this game has become a worldwide and cultural phenomenon that almost everybody can recognize.

The game is fairly simple at its core, players catch pokemon, train them, and battle with them. Pokemons were cute monsters that players encounter as they walk around grass that have different elements as their types.

Pokemon made its debut at 1996 which was playable on the Game Boy console. Green, Red, and Blue were the different versions available all with different types of pokemons available. Its famous tag line "gotta catch 'em all" is evident in each of its instalment as there are countless pokemons to choose from.

Each version offered a different level of playability, but what enticed players was the trading system. Players could trade with the other games, to acquire pokemon that are not available on the version they were playing on.

Fans have praised each series, while having ideas of their own. As each instalment looked similar to the previous one, fans made their own hacked games that featured gameplay that they wanted.

One of the popular fan-made games was Pokemon Uranium which was cancelled by Nintendo. Another fan-made game was under the radar until it was soon discovered by Nintendo.

The upcoming pokemon game Pokemon Prism was supposed to be released on December 25, 2016. The game was to feature the graphics of Pokemon Silver from the Game Boy Color, with new plotlines and characters.

Pokemon Prism's creator purposely branded the game as a ROM hack to remove any attachment to it to the official game. The game was 8 years in development and was made by a single creator.

Nintendo cancelled the game just like they cancelled Pokemon Uranium. As Pokemon Sun and Moon is close to its release, Nintendo is showing that they condone any level of hacks towards their game.
