The biggest WMMA fight of 2016 is just days away, and all over the world UFC fans, analysts and promoters are building the hype on the upcoming fight of Ronda Rousey and Amanda Nunes. But one UFC broadcaster is not particularly happy.
Joe Rogan, a veteran UFC broadcaster, took to Twitter to express his disappointment about all the promotional hype in the upcoming UFC 207 fight. In his tweet, he said: "I find it bizarre that all these UFC 207 promos only focus on Ronda and very little about the champion Amanda_Leoa," referring to Amanda Nunes.
Amanda Nunes now currently ranks no.1 in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA women's bantamweight rankings (13-4 MMA, 6-1 UFC) while Rousey now just ranks no.2 (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC). This is her first time defending her bantamweight title and Regan thinks that promoters should focus on Nunes too and not just Rousey.
To give credit to Ronda, she is one of the most popular WMMA stars in history. Before her crushing defeat to Holly Holm back in 2015, she was the UFC champion fora three years, with six title wins under her belt. We didn't see much of Ronda after that ill-fated fight, as she took a hiatus from the social media. Now after a year, she's finally back on track.
The "she's back" theme is now circulating among the several promotional videos and commercials pertaining to the upcoming UFC 207 fight, with only little to no mention of the current bantamweight champ, Amanda Nunes.
Hence the reason Rogan finds everything "extremely bizarre", and thinks promoters should feature Nunes too.
Another one of his tweets that made headlines said: "Ronda deserved every bit of hype she got, but Holly KO'ed her, Miesha choked out Holly, and Amanda smashed Miesha. That should be respected."
UFC fans dissed him for that saying that he was one of the people providing over the top promotions about Ronda before her loss, so it's partially his fault. One fan replied to Rogan's tweet saying, " @joerogan you've helped contribute to this Ronda hype a lot, so don't be so surprised."
