UFC fans will get a massive end-of-the-year treat with the latest news from Fox 1. After exiling herself from the spotlight for over a year, fan favorite Ronda Rousey is set for her comeback match against UFC women's bantamweight defending champion, Amanda Nunes.
The highly awaited event would be on December 30 in Las Vegas. Ronda and Nunes would be the main event of the UFC 207 and joining them would be Dominick Cruz versus Cody Garbrandt.
It was already decided by the Nevada Athletic Commission who the referee and ruling judges would be in the Rousey-Nunes fight. Herb Dean is the appointed referee, while the judges are Adelaide Byrd, Sal D'Amato and Chris Lee.
Everything is polished and ready to go, and fans are just counting how many days are left till the UFC women division's biggest fight of the year. At the monthly meeting of the Nevada Athletic Commission, it was disclosed that none of the officials and the fighters have any problems with each other.
Last time we have seen Ronda was on November 2015, when she suffered a humiliating loss to Holly Holm. During the UFC 193, Holm defeated Ronda via knockout in the second round, greatly shocking all viewers and sports analysts alike. Since then, Ronda went conspicuously under the radar, dodging media for over a year, until just recently when she accepted the fight between Amanda Nunes.
With this upcoming fight, it would be the first time Amanda Nunes will have to defend her current belt. The 28-year old UFC fighter won her title last July in the UFC 200 against Miesha Tate, in a stunning first-round TKO victory. She had a fantastic streak for the last two years inside the arena as she has won 4 straight fights, but compared to Ronda, she's not that globally famous until now.
When asked whom she'd like to fight if given the choice, Nunes said: "I don't know anything yet, I'm waiting for the call. It's highly likely, right? Those girls are crazy. Juliana Pena says I'm running from her, Valentina Shevchenko also said I'm running from her, and now she's saying Juliana Pena is running from her, too. I don't like to play games."
"If they ask me who I want to fight, I'm going to say I want to fight Ronda. I'm not running from anyone, I'm the champion and I can choose who I'm going to fight. I will choose what's best for me and Ronda would be 'the' main fight, that's why it has to be against her, it has to be with Ronda."
