'Pokemon Go' Update: Thanksgiving Event To Give Double XP On Android And iOS

Pokemon trainers should expect to evolve their Pokemon even faster during Thanksgiving week. Pokemon Go will be giving out double XP during and right after the holidays. Coming after a successful Halloween event last October, Niantic announced a Thanksgiving event. Niantic is not really naming the event a Thanksgiving event but it does coincide with the American holiday.

Pokemon is a worldwide sensation while Thanksgiving is almost uniquely American. The event will be running globally. The event is meant to thank players for helping build a community of active gamers. Niantic wants to give a special thanks to players for supporting their mobile game up to now.

According to Forbes and Wired UK magazines and Yahoo News, Niantic says that the event will start November 22 at 7 PM ET and end on November 29 at 7 PM ET. Throughout the week-long event, players can get double Pokemon Go XP and Stardust. Any action in the game that is completed, for anyone who plays Pokemon Go during the Thanksgiving event, will earn double XP and double Startdust.

Niantic doesn't specifically say what those actions are but there won't be anything new introduced, just the same battling, capturing, and exploration as before. Anything that grants XP and Stardust, catching Pokemon, evolving Pokemon, visiting a PokeStop, will earn double the normal rewards within the event week. An earlier Halloween update was similar. By performing certain actions within the game, players who logged-in throughout the Halloween event were given 2x the amount of XP and Stardust.

Niantic says that when they launched Pokemon Go a few short months ago in July, it was an incredible experience. They were passionate about creating experiences that encourage exploration and promote exercise. That hundreds of millions of players around the world have joined them on their journey, humbled them. By giving double the amount of XP and Stardust rewards for completing in-game actions, they are giving thanks by celebrating their community. Pokemon Go is available for Android on the Google Play Store. The game is also available for iOS devices on the Apple App Store.
