Los Angeles Lakers point guard Jeremy Lin is in great position to have another major payday, and he should thank his current situation with the Los Angeles Lakers if he ever lands a big paycheck next year, according to Basketball Insider.
After two up-and-down season with the Houston Rockets, the 26-year old Lin is facing a prospect of another breakthrough season, although it won't be as phenomenal as the Linsanity New Yorkers experience three seasons ago, the shockwaves it would produce is enough for him to gain a long-term financial security.
In the Lakers 2014-15 season preview recently released by Basketball Insiders, the American-Asian star is expected to put up better numbers than he had in the last two seasons.
The point guard situation the Lakers present a perfect opportunity for Lin to do what he does best - scoring and setting up plays.
While Steve Nash can still put up decent numbers, the law of nature will eventually prevent the 40-year old veteran from logging too much minutes on the floor. And this is the primarily reason why Lin should have a great statistical year because the more minutes he plays, the better his chance of making impact on the floor.
"We're not predicting a repeat of 'Linsanity' or anything of that nature, but the circumstances are in place for Lin to have a very productive year as he seeks long-term security moving forward," via Basketball Insiders.
Lin will absolutely produce more points than he had last year when he served as a backup for Patrick Beverley. With his field goal and three-point shooting reaching career high a season ago along with his slashing ability, the Asian American star will easily score at least 15 points a game.
Moreover, the presence of power forward Carlos Boozer will present itself as a gift for Lin, who is among the best pick-and-roll orchestrators in the game. Boozer has been no stranger to this bread-and-butter play, having racked up thousands of points as a finisher off a pass from Deron Williams and Derrick Rose.
What's Going to Be Lin's Value Next Offseason?
This is going to be perhaps the biggest question Lin will try to find out next summer, when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. Everybody knows the Lakers have set their sight on other point guards soon to hit the market like Eric Bledsoe, Goran Dragic and even Rajon Rondo. These players would surely command at least $15M per year, a price the Lakers can easily give because of their flexible financial situation. On the other hand, the Lakers may not bother to look elsewhere if Lin proves to be more than just one-year rental player.
At 26-year old, Lin still lots of basketball left in his career and a long-term deal won't be much of a gamble for the purple-and-gold. Moreover, Scott mentioned that he really liked Lin a lot, and their relationship could be a major factor for the Lakers to keep him on a deal worth between $8-$10 million per year.
