Cowboys Rumors: Trade For Adrian Peterson Taking Into Shape

The Dallas Cowboys may have a chance to snatch Adrian Peterson after all. In the wake of AP's indictment in a child abuse case, the Vikings are leaving all options open - including getting rid of the former NFL MVP via trade.

Peterson, who was indicted by a grand jury on charges of child abuse after inflicting injuries to his son by whipping him with a switch, could be on his way out of Minnesota as the Vikings look to unload his hefty contract.

After deactivating Peterson for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots, the Vikings reinstated on Monday their franchise running back for their upcoming game against the New Orleans Saints this weekend.

However, Vikings general manager Rick Spielman stressed that all options remain 'on the table' and a trading Peterson has become even more a possibility.

"We are, as an organization, still in the process of gathering information, and at the end of the weekend we will discuss what we will do going forward," Spielman told NBC Sports. "You don't want to make any kneejerk reactions. All options are on the table. You can't take any options off the table because we're still gathering information.

Aside from his trouble off the field, the 29-year old Peterson let some of his Vikings fans disappointed following Jerry Jones' confession of the running's back attempt to join the Cowboys this season.

Moreover, NFL veteran insider Mike Florio of NBC Sports believed the Vikings could be brewing a plan to deal away Peterson just in time when bigger paychecks of his current deal come in.

"Already in the big-money years of a contract that devotes way too much cash to a devalued position, the charges against Peterson could sufficiently diminish his standing in the eyes of the fan base to allow the Vikings to free themselves of salaries of $12.75 million in 2015, $14.75 million in 2016, and $15.75 million in 2017," Florio stated.

As trade possibilities loom large, there are speculations that the Cowboys are now making their moves to finally acquire their 'dream' running back in Peterson.

Eric Goldschein of SportsGrid has a nice take on the current situation, including a AP's possible trip to Big D.

"It would be difficult to trade a soon-to-be 30-year-old running back facing a possible prison sentence, of course - but if anyone would get looks anyway, it'd be a transcendent talent like AP."

"Is this how Peterson becomes a Cowboy? (Probably not, since Dallas is already over the cap next season - but Jerry Jones is one of the only owners willing to withstand the firestorm of criticism in order to get his man.)"

Will Peterson end up with the Cowboys before the season ends? Who knows? But this storyline is intriguingly shaping up.
