Mayweather Jr. vs. Maidana 2 Results, CompuBox Stats, Video Highlights & Photos

Floyd Mayweather Jr. has preserved his immaculate record by dancing his way to a unanimous decision win over Marcos Maidana in their welterweight and light middleweight championship fight on Saturday at MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As promised, the 37-year old Mayweather delivered a boxing clinic as his ring savvy and counter punching skills were just too much for Maidana's grit to overcome.

Money May, who will rack up $32 million in guaranteed purse from the fight plus his share in PPV money, opened the fight big time as he shut down Mayweather with counterpunching and excellent footwork.

But the Argentine brawler came alive in the ensuing rounds, pounding the Grand Rapids native with body shots and overhand punches that even jarred the American in some occasions. Maidana's effort in the fifth frame won him the round, and the rest was all Mayweather.

After a shaky showing, Mayweather adjusted well to Maidana's roughhousing style as he now implemented his superb footwork to dance around his flat-footed opponent. Money May landed a series of shots on the face of Maidana, making him literally his punching bag in the second half of the fight.

Referee Kenney Bayless, who is considered the best in the business by boxing pundits, had a great job separating the two fighters everytime they got tangled. In the end, Mayweather (47-0, 26 Kos) retained his belts by leaving Maidana (35-5, 31 KOs) black and blue 116-111, 116-111 and 115-112.

Veteran boxing writer Dan Rafael called Maidana's performance a 'far cry' from his showing last May 3, when he arguably gave Mayweather the toughest fight of his career.

"The fight was a far cry from the action-packed first fight on May 3, when they met to unify welterweight titles and Maidana nearly pulled the upset. He gave Mayweather perhaps the most difficult fight of his brilliant unbeaten career, but Mayweather won a majority decision, also at the MGM Grand," according to the award-winning boxing pundit.
