Golf Digest cover girl Paulina Gretzky for the magazine's May 2014 issue angered the members of the Ladies Professional Golf Association.
As Paulina Gretzky was chosen to be the magazine's cover girl for its May issue, controversies started to strike. Many are questioning what Gretzky is doing on Golf Digest's front cover since the model is not really into the world of golf. The Ladies Professional Golf Association also reacted to the decision of making Gretzky as the cover girl.
Members of the LPGA were angered over the magazine's choice of selecting a non-golf pro as a cover. This just means that many lady golf pros are being overlooked. According to USA Today, top-ranked American golfer Stacy Lewis said that they don't get the respect when Golf Digest cover girl Paulina Gretzky posed for the May issue.
"It's the state of where we've always been. We don't get the respect for being the golfers we are" Lewis said.
Editor in chief of Golf Digest, Jerry Tarde however defended the Golf Digest cover girl. According to his statement, Paulina Gretzky is a celebrity in the golf world and is qualified to be on the cover story. Tarde also added that Golf Digest cover girl Gretzky is a natural for a cover subject of the magazine's May issue.
For the upcoming release of Golf Digest magazine, Paulina Gretzky demonstrated her six golf-improvement exercise and talks about her involvement in the world of sports. Paulina is actually the daughter of hockey icon Wayne Gretzky and is currently engaged to a PGA Tour pro Dustin Johnson. The May issue wherein Paulina Gretzky is the Golf Digest cover girl will hit newsstands on April 15 and it will be available in a tablet on April 8.
In the cover photo, Gretzky is not wearing typical golf attire instead, she's wearing a fitted workout pants and a sports bra. When being fit is the basis for choosing Gretzky as the cover girl, veteran golfer Angelina Stanford insisted that there are also women golfers that are attractive and fit.
"You know the old saying, sex sells. And nobody can argue with that. It's just the way it is. But the LPGA has some attractive women and very fit women, so why not use them? I'm just baffled by it." She told the USA Today.
