A new bar made entirely of ice has opened in Manhattan. The new bar in the New York Hilton Midtown is called Minus5 Ice.
The bar is the first ice bar in the city and is made entirely of ice. Everything from the walls, the bar, the seating and the glasses are made of ice and every 90 days the space is redesigned by ice artists, reports USA Today.
"We have our own ice carver who changes the bar and sculptures every 6-8 weeks, continually re-inventing the experience. Sculptures can reflect the season, location, wildlife, or even corporate logos and products for private functions. The possibilities are endless," says Minus5 Ice's website.
The website states that the bar was created in New Zealand and it is an "an ice bar where you can touch, feel, and explore handcrafted ice sculptures and ice architecture made from 100% pure Canadian ice. Named for its constant frosty temperature of minus five degrees (twenty-three degrees Fahrenheit), thousands have flocked to experience this unique concept," says the bar's website.
The bar serves vodka-based cocktails, beer and wine and mocktails. It costs $20 to get in and includes a coat and gloves to wear inside.
The bar has locations in the Mandalay Bay and Monte Carlo in Las Vegas and the Hilton in NYC.
"Guests can explore the ice bar and relax on ice couches covered in deer skin, while sipping on a wide range of cocktails using only the world's premium vodkas served in our custom-designed glasses made from NZ artesian water. A photographer, skilled in the art of "capturing the moment," roams the bar. It is one thing to experience something so cool; however it is something else to showcase that experience to friends and family," says the bar's website. "Printed photos await guests as they complete their tour and guests are given the opportunity to purchase anything from an Eskimo hat, to the "coolest" minus5° Clothing gear."
