Prince Phillip Operation: In Hospital for Exploratory Operation

Prince Phillip, Queen Elizabeth 11's husband has been admitted to a hospital in London. CNN reported that Prince Phillip is in the hospital for an "exploratory operation" according to Buckingham Palace. He is expected to stay in the hospital for up to two weeks.

"His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has been admitted to the London Clinic for an exploratory operation following abdominal investigations.

"He is expected to stay in hospital for up to two weeks. Further updates will be issued when appropriate," said the statement.

He is currently at the London Clinic "following abdominal investigations." A spokesperson from the palace said that the operation will probably take place on Friday and his 92nd birthday is on Monday.

On Tuesday, Philip and other members of the royal family whent to a service at Westminster Abbey for the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation.

Sky.com reported that he is at the London Clinic in Harley Street. Prince Philip was driven to the hospital after he attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

A spokeswoman stressed that the hospital visit was planned and said that he is in very good health.

"He felt unwell on Monday and missed an engagement but that was down to the fact he had temporarily lost his voice," added the spokesperson.

Prime Minister David Cameron said on Twitter: "My best wishes to the Duke of Edinburgh who is in hospital tonight. I hope he has a swift recovery."

The Queen and Prince Philip appeared on the steps of Buckingham Palace together at 4 pm to mark the start of the garden party. On Tuesday he was there for her coronation and on Wednesday he toured a Victorian steamship, the SS Robin, in East London, reported sky.com.

On Thursday sky.com reported that "the Queen invested Prince Philip with New Zealand's highest honour, making him an additional member of the Order of New Zealand to mark the Diamond Jubilee."
