Matt Lauer Intern: 'Today Show' Host Called Out on Twitter

Just days after stories about Matt Lauer not liking Ann Curry and possibly being replaced was detailed in New York Magazine, "The Today Show" host now has a new rumor to face.

A former "Today" intern has accused him of not being a nice person.

"i was an intern there in '97, his first year on the job...how do I say this...? he was...not nice," Mark Zinni Tweeted.

Lauer, 55, who does not frequently respond to Twitter mentions apologized.

"huh? Always tried to be nice Mark. Sorry you didn't think so. Hope you're doing well. Matt."

Zinni responded.

"What..A..Day," followed by, "oh boy...did you email my station today, because I got a nasty one! #karma."

A "Today Show" intern, Judith Equihua, came to Lauer's defense, tweeting, "@MLauer @markzinni if anything, Matt thank you for always being kind and welcoming to interns!!" (I'm a current intern) #thank you."

After the story about Lauer and Ann Curry, Deadline Hollywood reported that Anderson Cooper, the popular talk show host and host of "360 with Anderson Cooper," was being considered as a replacement for Lauer at the "Today Show" before his contract expires in 2014.

NBC executive Alexandra Wallace told the Associated Press that they are not considering replacing Lauer, calling him the "best in the business."

The "Today Show" has been having a lot of trouble, both behind the scenes and in the ratings since Curry's departure, which many blamed Lauer for. TMZ also reported that disapproving passers-by on the streets screamed at Lauer in December.
