"Girls just want to have fun," that is what Cyndi Lauper states, but, the question is: do girls who "want to have fun" put so much attention on themselves that they risk getting raped?
That is exactly what British MP (Member of Parliament), Richard Graham, believes.
"'If you are a young woman on her own trying to walk back home through a park early in the morning in a tight, short skirt and high shoes, and there's a predator . . . if you are blind drunk wearing those clothes how able are you to get away?" according to the Daily Mail of England.
What about the "bobbies?" (British for police officers)
"Although we have a pretty heavy police presence, life doesn't give you full protection from a predator all the time. You have got to help look after yourself as well," Graham said, according to the Daily Mail of England.
Wait. Hold on minister. In the words of former-tennis-great John McEnroe, "you can't be serious?"
Oh, but he is.
'It's not [just] about the impact of your clothes on a potential predator in my view - it's about whether the clothes you're wearing make it harder to get away from a predator," Graham continued, according to the Daily Mail of England.
The MP's comments come days after English actress Joanna Lumley said that "women should dress more demurely to avoid being 'raped' or 'robbed,'" according to the Daily Mail of England.
So women, listen up, to avoid rape, follow these simple rules:
When going home from a night out, always have accompaniment.
Don't travel to certain areas.
Carry some sort of spray or something else that can be used as a defensive device.
Or, take the advice of MP Graham:
When going out, always dress in bland, unrevealing clothes that not even a grandmother would wear.
Never wear high heel shoes under any circumstances.
If all else fails-don't go out at all-be content with being a home dweller.
