The death of Michael (Brett Dier) has had a huge impact on the dynamics of the characters in "Jane the Virgin." Episode 11 of Season 3 titled "Chapter Fifty-Five" is set three years after Michael's demise and everyone's lives seem very different.
Jane (Gina Rodriguez), while being a mother to her hyperactive son, Mateo, gets the final spot at a major Miami author showcase and introduced a chapter from her finished book, a romantic novel about her love for Michael. Jane is now an assistant at a publishing house.
In the same time, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) and Darci (Justina Machado) gets married only for their reality show similar to that of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" which causes a conflict with Xo (Andrea Navedo), Rogelio's ex-girlfriend. Rogelio also agrees to do one more season much to the dismay of Xo. The ultimate goal of Rogelio is to star in an english version of "The Passions of Santos."
However, it might be Rafael (Justin Baldoni) who has changed most since the death of Michael in Episode 10 of "Jane the Virgin" Season 3. After serving a sentence in prison, he is now a different and carefree person. He is now Jane's main support system, and is in a relationship with Abby (Minka Kelly), while Petra (Yael Grobglas) is now the executive of Marbella and is having an affair with the owner of a strip club next door.
Baldoni told ET Online that the previous episode was really shocking and hurtful that for a moment "Jane the Virgin" felt like "Jane of Thrones." He adds that what made the time jump beautiful is that they did not have to change the tone of the show, the viewers did not have to watch Jane drown in depression after becoming a widow. This would have made it difficult to incorporate comedy in the show.
