GoPro Karma Drone Is Back From 3 Months Hiatus!

GoPro Karma announced its comeback. GoPro recalled the infamous drone due to a series of reported nose-diving incidents last year.

In November 2016, GoPro recalled 2,500 units and temporarily canceled shipments of GoPro Karma drones. This happened after reports that some Karma drones would lose power during flight and plunge back down to the ground. GoPro claimed in a blog post that it restructured the battery latch on the GoPro Karma, which according to them led to a huge improvement.

The Verge reported in November 2016 that the weighty front design of the GoPro Karma drone, where the GoPro camera is on the front of the drone, directed to more vibrations compared to traditional drones. This is the result of the Karma working harder to stay balanced. The extra vibrations caused by the Karma most often loosen the detachable battery, which lines up with GoPro's claim of redesigning the battery latch.

The traditional drone designs that have surfaced recently, like that of the DJI Phantom 4, the camera are underneath the drone, which provides a much more balanced design. That kind of design, however, also connotes that the overall size of the drone is bigger and less portable than the GoPro Karma.

The GoPro Karma distinguishes itself from the wide variety of drones on the market by containing a detachable stabilizer gimbal that can be attached to the included Karma Grip handle. GoPro prides that with the Karma's removable stabilizer gimbal and the Karma Grip, you can use the GoPro camera used with the Karma drone to record smooth hand-held footage, or you can mount or attach it onto other pieces of equipment, like mountain bikes.

The GoPro Karma drone still costs $799. For the bundled GoPro Karma drone with HERO5 Black, the price is $1099.99
