Netflix is reportedly contemplating the production of a device called MindFlix. The latest device is said to enable users to browse the platform's catalog using only mind control.
With the MindFlix, remote controls are things of the past. The process will no longer entail you move a muscle or even lift your hand in order to traverse the platform's interface. With MindFlix, all you have to do is just think or will the app to a title. Netflix will then promptly show you what you have thought of it doing. When using MindFlix, you can think of the word play for instance, and it would then start streaming or play video.
The mind control device dubbed as MindFlix is most probably just a concept. MindFlix was unveiled on Jan. 30 through Netflix' Hack Day Winter 2017 event. The concept is based on the Muse headband, which is hyped as a technology that can read the brainwaves of the one wearing it. Originally, the device is designed as a tool to learn meditation and mindfulness.
It appears that the Netflix engineering team have restructured the device in order for its brain-sensing proficiencies to allow the wearer of MindFlix to command the Netflix UI using pure willpower alone. It is important to note, however, that the Hack Day event is being advertised as a way for the company's product development team to wind down and conduct interesting and fun experiments. Netflix emphasized that the ideas that appeared so far should be taken with a grain of salt.
Meanwhile, several sources pointed out that while Hack Day generates some pretty wild ideas, a number of these, however, has inspired actual products. For instance, there is the incident of Netflix's subsequent entry into the virtual reality platform. According to Variety the Netflix entry to the VR platform came instantaneously after engineers proposed the idea during the Hack Day 2014.
