Hurricane Sandy 2012, "Frankenstorm" Very Likely to Hit East Coast on Halloween, Path Map

Experts are saying that Hurricane Sandy is getting more and more likely to arrive in the East Coast on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The AP reported that the storm that is starting to be known as "Frankenstorm" because of its proximity to Halloween.

The AP reported that meteorologist are saying that heavy rain, wind, extreme tides and even snow may begin early Sunday with Hurricane Sandy arriving on Tuesday and staying past Halloween on Wednesday.

Hurricane Sandy has already gone through Haiti and Cuba and is heading northward. The AP reported, "A wintry storm is chugging across the country from the west. And frigid air is streaming south from Canada. And if they meet Tuesday morning around New York or New Jersey, as forecasters predict, they could create a big, wet mess that settles over the nation's most heavily populated corridor and reaches as far west as Ohio."

The Los Angeles Times reported that Hurricane Sandy killed 21 people in the Carribean and forecasters downgraded the category of the hurricane to a Category 1 on Thursday after it hit Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Bahamas.

The Los Angeles Times also reported that the the storm could cause $1 billionin damage in the Northeast.

National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Kocin Paul Kocin said to The Los Angeles Times that the financial effect on the U.S. from the storm could reach "historic proportions."

He added to The Los Angeles Times, "the storm coming up has the potential to have about as large an impact as anything we've ever seen. This one definitely has the potential for at least $1 billion" in damage.

"There's a lot of storms these days that cause $1 billion" in damage, Kocin said. "It won't take that much of a hit on a very populated part of the country with a huge coastline and a lot of development for a billion dollars or several billion dollars [in damage] to occur," he added to the Los Angeles Times.
