‘Scandal’ Season 6 Will Have A Lot Of Flashbacks, Show’s Final Season Will Be Up To Shonda Rhimes

Season 6 of "Scandal" will be shorter compared to previous seasons and will feature a lot of flashbacks. There was also a speculation if this would be the final season of the show, but ABC said it is still up to creator and producer Shonda Rhimes.

According to the Vulture, Rhimes said during the Television Critics Association press day that having a shorter season made for a "stronger storytelling." The producer was actually the one who asked for the shorter season.

"It was a thing that I wanted and asked for and said I wanted to do in the middle of last season," says Rhimes. "It was a relief and it was exciting to be able to plan the season knowing the length would be shorter."

"Scandal" Season 6 will also be having a lot of flashbacks, which Rhimes describes as a "beautiful way of telling" the story. She said that the flashbacks will be showing how the different characters see things from their perspective.

She adds that this is different from what they have done before. They wanted to show where the characters would "come to after all this time."

Season 6 of the show will air on January 26, 2017, and Lesley Goldberg of The Hollywood Reporter is asking if this would be the final season. She was referring to Rhimes interview prior to season four, where she said the show is not considered a 10-season or eight season series.

Rhimes said at that time that the show's story can only be told in such a way for so long. She adds that she has already decided the length of the TV show.

Goldberg reports that Channing Dungey, the president of ABC Entertainment, said that she and Rhimes have already discussed the ending of the show. But she said that it's still up to the producer as the TV company is willing to take "take as much 'Scandal'" as Rhimes can give.

Rhimes did confirm that this will not be the final season of the show. Check out the trailer for Season 6 of "Scandal" in the video below.
