Fox's hit American TV series, "Prison Break" will be returning this year for season 5 following a 7-year hiatus. The announcement shocked the fans of the original series as the season 4 finale had the story pretty much wrapped up with some loose ends left for the imagination. With season 5 confirmed, Paul Scheuring prepared some twist to thrill fans and honor Homer's "Odyssey."
Season 4 ended with Michael helping Sara to escape despite his brain tumor. With limited options for a successful breakout, Michael sacrificed himself which resulted to his death or what the makers wants us to believe. Now, season 5 trailers reveal that Michael is still alive and mysteriously ended up in a prison in Middle East.
During the series' 4-year run since 2005, we've seen the cast imprisoned in three prisons. In season one, Illinois' Fox River State Penitentiary became the main focus while Penitenciaría Federal de Sona of Panama in season 2 and 3. Sara's escape from Miami-Dade County Penitentiary ended season 4. Now, season 5 will feature an unnamed prison in Yemen which in turn holds Michael.
Events which explains Michael ending up half-way across the globe will be unveiled over the course of season 5 as reported by Entertainment Weekly. Scheuring is apparently incorporating some aspects of "Odyssey" to the new season of "Prison Break." "One of the big components of the season was Odysseus went through hell, he went across half the globe to get home. That's what I wanted to do with Michael," said the Executive Producer.
According to Tripped Media, Wentworth Miller will be coming back to play Michael and with Dominic Purcell as Lincoln. New faces will be joining the show starring Mark Feuerstein as Jacob, the new man in Sara's life. Kunal Sharma will also appear on the show as Sid, a man that Michael befriends in the Yemen prison.
Season 5 promises a lot of chase scenes, melees and as the name of the series implies, another prison break. Based on the trailers, Michael will have an external help from his brother Lincoln to bust out of the Yemen prison. There is no official statement about the exact release of the new season but it is expected to be this spring.
