Canada’s Montreal To Neighbors: Sorry! It’s My 375th Birthday

The Land of Sorry will be apologizing even more as the city of Montreal will celebrate its 375th birthday. As preparations for their birthday bash, it seems like Canadians have to knock on someone's door and say, "Sorry!"

But they shouldn't be asking for forgiveness as they open their gates for people to celebrate with them for a whole year with 175 programs lining up.

Three Montreal Symphonic Orchestra will get to play at Mount Royal in line with the celebration of the year. The OSM, the Orchestre Métropolitain, and the McGill Symphony Orchestra will tune up for the public free of charge. Expect different improve troupes in the city depicting the history of Montreal.

From art shows to the Illumination of the Biosphere, to circuses and literature, 2017 is a good year to visit the city. Or, generally, Canada. The country will be celebrating its 150th birthday. Canadians will be having a grand time this year. It was on May 17, 1642 when a French colony settled to Montreal.

General Manager of The Society for the Celebration of Montreal's 375th Anniversary, Alain Gignac told Globe and Mail, "It's true, 375 isn't a significant number, But why not celebrate? We were starting to get used to a kind of gloominess. We thought, why not mark the moment, give Montreal a little energy and pride, and a sense of belonging to Montrealers so that they can get into the party."

This January, their activities take you to a BARBEGAZI winter obstacle course to win $5,000. Another chilly celebration will be the IGLOOFEST where there will be music, competitions, and good food.

Giving importance to cultural diversity, Aime comme Montréal will get visitors to tackle issues of a multicultural city with book and photography exhibits. Even family activities at Parc Jean-Drapeau for Fête des Neiges will be held.
