Whenever someone mentions anything about Michael Bay's "Transformers" movies the reactions that follow can be a little polarizing to say the least. Others will probably praise it while some might just roll their eyes and let out a sigh of disappointment.
Well whatever the case, Michael Bay's live adaptations of the beloved robot franchise have managed to rake in the dough despite being derided by both fans and critics alike, and now the latest instalment is set to premier in the summer of 2017. Transformers: The Last Knight, whose trailer debuted just a few days ago, promises to bring more explosions, flying pieces of metal, and giant robot battles to cinemas next year.
According to Gizmodo, the next instalment is being overseen by both Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg. The report on the website states that Paramount had installed a group of writers last year to come up with some stories not just for the upcoming film, but also for other potential "Transformers" films down the road.
It resulted in a pretty big pool of ideas which were pitched to Bay by the dozens. Some of the stories will be used for sequels, while others will be for potential spinoffs, but making "The Last Knight" was the very first order of business. In an interview, producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura says the film will feature "two storylines from two different timelines" running through the franchise's mythology. The producer continued by saying the storyline will help audiences know more about the robots' historical evolutions which would ultimately lead to the rift between the Decepticons and Autobots.
Optimus Prime, the beloved leader of the Autobots, will question his own identity and what he has done, and audiences will get to see his origins. Mark Wahlberg will reprise his role as Cade Yaeger from the previous instalment, "Age of Extinction" while Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson will be making their returns to the Transformers films for the first time since 2011's "Dark of the Moon." According to The Verge, "The Last Knight" will be the final Transformers film to be directed by Michael Bay. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on June 23, 2017.
