Sierra Leone Ebola - Africa has yet to successfully deal with the Ebola outbreak, now the country faces another blow with reports of a doctor testing positive for Ebola in Sierra Leone. Adding to the country's turmoil is news of a strike by health workers at the only clinic in Bandajuma.
The Ebola outbreak is becoming worse than ever. The latest in Sierra Leone Ebola is the confirmed case of a doctor having contracted the deadly virus. The specialist surgeon, identified as Dr. Martin Salia, is reportedly the sixth doctor in Sierra Leone to contract the Ebola virus. Salia is currently under treatment and no other details were released by the Sierra Leone Ebola chief medical officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo.
After having to deal with another doctor infected with the Ebola virus, residents of Sierra Leone now have to deal with health workers on strike. According to reports by BBC, the health workers in Sierra Leone Ebola are protesting about their "hazard payment." The government allegedly agreed on the weekly pay out of $100 but have failed to distribute the said amount to health workers.
"An ambulance has just been turned away with a patient because the workers cannot go into the clinic if allowances are not paid," says Mohamed Mbawah, one of the representatives of the health workers on strike, in a report by Reuters.
The only clinic in Bandajuma is currently the only Sierra Leone Ebola treatment facility. Now, residents have to deal with a limited number of health workers following the strike. Around 5,000 people have already died from the virus, most of which include health workers.
With health workers on strike at the Sierra Leona Ebola clinic, government officials claim to "shut down the treatment center." To date, Sierra Leone is one out of three African nations gravely afflicted with the Ebola virus.
