Cold Case Solved with Legos After 23 Years! Read About How the Case Was Solved Here!

A Utah cold case solved with Legos after a span of 23 years. It involved the violent murder case of a 78-year-old elderly woman from Utah. She was bludgeoned to death and strangled inside her own home in Salt Lake City. After 23 years, the cold case solved with Legos.

It was back in 1991, when the crime was committed to Lucille Johnson, that these famous toy building blocks were found by the entry way of Johnson's home. They were placed in bags and stored as part of the cold case solved with Legos' evidence file. Having no conclusion for a span of 23 years, the family of Johnson started to believe that they would never be able to find out what truly happened that night and who killed Johnson, or so reports Fox 13.

However, and fortunately for the family, the file was reopened just last year. It was discovered through DNA testing that there was a residue that linked the Legos to the alleged killer. As investigated, the DNA residue pointed to the 47-year-old John Sansing, who happens to be a convicted murderer who is currently on death row in Arizona for another case that was unrelated to the cold case solved with Legos.

The fingerprints found on the Lego were found to belong to Sansing's juvenile son. Investigators have now reached to a conclusion that the child was playing with the Legos inside the house when his father allegedly murdered Johnson.

Now that they have a suspect, detectives submitted the scrapings that they got from under Johnson's fingernails. They scanned for DNA and it was a match to Sansing's DNA profile.

At the time that the crime was committed, the local police believed that the murderer was actually invited into the house by Johnson herself. However, investigators say that Johnson and Sansing never knew each other. They did note, however, that there were some missing jewelry pieces from inside the house. Still, no motive for the cold case solved with Legos has been finalized.
