Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO has reportedly been unwashed for over a year now. Levi's CEO Chip Bergh boasted of this unusual bit of "green" habit of his at Fortune magazine's Brainstorm Green conference on Monday. The unwashed, dark denim Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO Bergh was worn by the speaker during the surprising announcement.
Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh revealed in the conference that he hasn't washed his favorite pair of Levis Jeans 501 for a year now. Daily Mail reports that the 56-year-old arrived at Fortune magazine's Brainstorm Green conference on Monday in California.
While the Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO is clinging to the CEO and visible to the public eye, Bergh admitted that they were "yet to see a washing machine." In his announcement, he continued the speech and even reportedly told the crowd of business leaders gathered: "I know that sounds totally disgusting, I know it does . . . [But] I have yet to get a skin disease or anything else."
Because it has been revealed that the Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO hasn't been washed for a year, many asked Bergh how often people should be washing their jeans. In reply, Bergh said, "not very often." He also added that "real denim aficionados" never put their threads near soap and water.
According to him, it is simply recommended that stains only be dabbed with a sponge or more stubborn marks removed with a toothbrush.
Fortune's Managing Editor Andy Sewer who was at the time interviewing Mr Bergh reportedly looked a little disgusted at the revelation of the Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO not being washed for a year. However, Sewer still admitted that the tight-fitting pants still looked "pretty good."
Accordingly, tags on Levi Strauss jeans reportedly also urge customers to wash less and use only cold water in cleaning their jeans. According to reports, Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO Bergh isn't the jeans in the world which hasn't been washed. TMZ reported that Tommy Hilfiger has also completely let go of the washing cycle. He revealed last year that he "never" washes his jeans. He also admitted that his favorite brand is Levi Strauss. The 63-year-old reportedly told a TMZ reporter, "I never wash my Levi's. They'll fall apart. I love them broken in."
Meanwhile, TV anchor Anderson Cooper also revealed that he wears the same jeans every day, and that somehow just like the Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO Bergh, he washes his jeans very seldom. He reportedly only wash them on average only four times a year. Cooper also admitted that he had an unconventional method of cleaning his jeans: wearing them in the shower. He said, "So the times I've washed my jeans, maybe twice in six months . . . I've worn them and walked into my shower with them and put some soap on them and then air dried them."
On Tuesday, Levi Strauss celebrated the 141st birthday of their 501 jeans.
Levis Jeans 501 of Levi's CEO being washed only once a year is in line with the California-based company's goal towards creating denim products that last longer and require less washing in a bid to promote sustainability.
