Viola Davis and Mahershala Ali won their first Oscar for their supporting roles in "Fences" and "Moonlight" respectively. Davis' victory was a welcome change compared to last year when there were no colored nominees. Ali on the other hand, goes down in history as the Academy's first Muslim winner.
