All hail the newest DWTS champs, Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy! These two absolutely deserve to win the Mirrorball Trophy after setting the dance floor on fire since day 1, showcasing wonderful routines and ethereal performance, and most of all gracing our televisions with their undeniable chemistry. But are Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkovskiy really dating?
The dating rumors have been following 27-year-old Davis and 34-year-old Chmerkovskiy ever since they showed remarkable on-cam chemistry on the DWTS dance floor. Meryl Davis, an Olympic ice-dancing gold medalist alongside partner and former rumored boyfriend Charlie White, may have tamed Ukrainian Latin Ballroom dance champion, choreographer, and resident pro DWTS dancer, Maksim Chmerkovskiy. The beauty of their relationship is almost always a delight to see every Monday night. But now that 'Dancing With The tars' season 18 has finally wrapped up, with the two ending triumphant despite tough competition with paralympic snowboarder Amy Purdy and partner Derek Hough, are they willing to take a chance on dating each other romantically?
In what seemed as a shocking and fun revelation during the finale of DWTS 2014, Maksim reportedly admitted that he indeed loves his partner Meryl Davis, reported HollywoodLife. "I want to ravage her and have ice-skating, big, Russian, mean babies. We're going to call them Boris and Oleg. Their nicknames are going to be Bear. Both. One nickname for both," Maks joked and added when asked about the perfect time for him to do the proposal, "Probably tomorrow."
Although of course Maks' tone was one that's attempting to put smiles on everyone's faces, it was still undeniable that his words may also mean a thing. Carrie Ann Inaba even said that "the best part of the season was you two," and she also gushed after their heart-racing freestyle routine during the finale part 1 that she wants to see Davis and Chmerkovskiy to "get married."
Davis, who has always been a tad mum on the real score between her and Maks, gushed during the finale that Maks "taught me so much, not just about dance, but about growing as a person." Was she possibly referring to growing in love and faith to one another?
On the other hand, DWTS dance floor bad boy, who has never won even once throughout the entire run of the previous DWTS seasons, recognized that fact that his victory was made even more meaningful because it's with Davis. "It means so much. To do it with Meryl is a dream come true. There's a reason it didn't happen before - because it was meant to happen with this one." Awwww! So sweet!
According to Bustle, it is inevitable that Meryl Davis and Maks Chmerkosvkiy will be dating following their success on the show. The site even noted that since the start of the season, many noticed the much calmer and more relaxed resolve of the usually hotheaded pro dancer all thanks to Meryl's presence. In an interview with Glamour Maks even hinted that Meryl brings out the best in him.
"I just want it on the record that most people don't know who I am. If you're watching me on TV for two hours, I may not like that person either. So you pass judgment on who you see on television. Everybody has a character. I'm not that guy," he said, adding, "Meryl brings out the best in me, and I'm glad people see that."
It can also be noted that in their first encounter rather rehearsal, Maks popped an ominous statement by saying, "So, I love you and I would love to marry you." Then, he even asked the ice dancing champ if she and Charlie White are indeed dating, even calling the query "the million dollar question" everyone's dying to ask. When Davis answered no, it was game on for the two of them. At least for the rehearsal during that time.
During their most recent interview with OK! magazine following their fresh victory, Maks and Meryl - or M&M for their followers and shippers out there - dished on how they feel after snagging the Mirrorball Trophy.
"I'm not as beside myself as I thought I would be because I'm incapable of accepting gifts or awards," Maks said. "We just had this weird, dumbfounded look on our faces."
The pro dancer then added, "As a fellow Capricorn, she (Meryl) knows what I'm saying. Thinking about the fact that this isn't my, or our, finish line. We could be brilliant. Charlie didn't make the finals. James didn't make the finals."
He also recognized the efforts of their fans and supporters all over the country by saying, "There are people that did incredible numbers. It's about the people who voted and called. They stay up overnight and vote and vote and vote. It's because of them that we're hosting the trophy. Had Amy and Derek's name been called out, all would be right with the world."
Now, when it came to Davis, reporters asked her if she and Maks are dating, and if there's a possibility that fans will see them together from now on. However, although the 27-year-old may have dodged the romantic aspect of the query, she managed to hint something that fans will surely love.
"We were just saying a couple minutes ago that the show, despite the fact that it's a reality show, puts people into really real situations," she said. "It's challenging, and we're not just coming onto the show on Mondays ready to dance and it's hard... I think that that's why when the cameras stop rolling, I think that's why a lot of the relationships you form on the show keep going long after the season's over."
Meanwhile, a week shy from the finale, Maks already revealed that he might not be returning the following season. (So he could tie the knot with Davis perhaps.) "Honestly, emotionally, I have no idea how this is possible twice. Derek did it five times," Maks said. "He was the first person that I spoke to after Meryl and I said, 'Dude, I have no clue.' I have to connect with the person and when I connect it's do or die. When the season's over, I'm depleted. I have nothing left."
