CRUCIFIX TRAGEDY CRUSHED 21 YEAR OLD PILGRIM IN CEVO, ITALY; IS THE FALLEN CRUCIFIX A SIGN OF AN IMPENDING DOOM?[PHOTOS]

Crucifix tragedy in Italy instantly killed a young pilgrim just days before the late Pope's canonization.

An unexpected tragic event occurred in a solemn place in Cevo where the gigantic crucifix dedicated to Pope John Paul II was installed. The 100 feet tall wooden cross that was built in honor of the Pope suddenly collapsed during a ceremony. Killed in the crucifix tragedy was the 21 year-old man who instantly died when the said wooden cross fell.

The young man in the name of Marco Gusmini was crushed during the crucifix tragedy. Gusmini has been visiting the area with other church groups from his town in Bergamo where he lives in a street named after Pope John XXIII. According to MailOnline, during the tragic incident, young Gusmini along with others were making a snack for lunch when they heard a crunching noise.

Upon hearing the noise coming from the cross, people fled in different directions including Gusmini. However, the unfortunate young man went into a wrong direction. Mayor Silvio Citroni noted that the crucifix tragedy was 'unexplainable' where a young life full of hopes was destroyed in an instant.

An Italian media has also reported that the young man might be physically disabled that he wasn't able to move away from the cross quickly. Aside from Gusmini who was crushed from the accident, another man was rushed to the hospital according to CHRISTIANTODAY.com.

The 100 feet tall curved wooden cross was actually designed by sculptor Enrico Job. The giant crucifix was said to be built in honor of the late Pope John Paul II's visit to Brescia in 1998. Jesus' statue in the curved cross approximately weighs at about 1, 300 pounds.

Cables were intently used where the crucifix was attached in order to represent the scars of the second world- war. The crucifix tragedy will surely be seen as an ill omen for the Sunday's celebration wherein John Paul II is to be declared a saint along with the Italian pope John XXIII. Moreover, the accident was not the first falling crucifix related death because in 2004, a 72 year-old woman was also killed when a seven-foot tall metal crucifix fell on her.
