Apple iPhone 5s Vs. Samsung Galaxy S4: Revisiting Their Best Specs, Features & More!

The Apple iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy S4 are just two quarters away from being replaced by their predecessors, but that does not mean that they will rapidly lose their charm in the smartphone market. Recent reports even reveal that the two high-end devices are still doing well and selling fast as of late. Hence, we decided to revisit these smartphones and pit them against each other once and for all. Here's a comparative review of the Apple iPhone 5s and the Samsung Galaxy S4's best specs, features & more.

Apple iPhone 5s over Samsung Galaxy S4

Because of its smaller frame, it is understood that the iPhone 5s is lighter than the Galaxy S4. Additionally, it's smaller build is ideal for people with small hands especially women who prefer a decent smartphone that does not require the use of two hands every time you use it. But then again, this is roughly a round that is governed by preference, and we like the fact that we can control and use the Apple iPhone 5s with just one hand for certain purposes and functions.

Although we don't have a problem with the Samsung Galaxy S4's glossy plastic build, it pains us knowing that Samsung could have incorporated metallic material this time to give its flagship device I more premium look and feel. On the other hand, we are quite pleased that Apple did not only stick to its anodized aluminum body for its latest iPhone installment, but it also decided to release the newest iPhone in several color variants.

If you're a fan of classic action-detective films and you delight over the thought of stellar security for your private files, then the Touch ID sensor found in the iPhone 5s is certainly the thing that will get you hooked with Apple's all-new iPhone. The biometric fingerprint scanning, consumer-friendly feature is one thing that Apple is more than proud to flaunt to its avid users and fans alike.

Performance-wise, we can't really say that one of the two is weaker. Their performance is also dependent on their operating systems. For an Android device, we can say that the Galaxy S4 delivers top-notch performance and the same is true for the Apple iPhone 5s that comes with the latest iPhone OS update, the iOS 7. However, it's quite noticeable that Apple's A7 chip and 64-bit architecture give the device an edge over the other when it comes to launching and closing apps, and managing multiple tasks.

Samsung Galaxy S4 over Apple iPhone 5s

On the get go, Samsung has always been gearing for the bigger smartphones, and it's pretty obvious that for the Galaxy S4 the Korean company has decided to raise the screen-size factor a little higher by sealing the deal with a 5-inch screen for its latest flagship device under the Galaxy S series. Comparing this device with the Apple iPhone 5s in terms of size, one can obviously see that the Galaxy S4 is taller and wider than the 5s. The disadvantage on its rather large size though is its thinner width, which is quite understandable given its massive battery. Don't get us wrong, we also love the Apple iPhone 5s' display and size, but in order for Apple to keep up with its competitors, it also needs to come up with larger devices.

In terms of display technology, we can't really say that one is not as good as the other; it's simply a case where in one is sports a sharp display while the other flaunts a sharper display. At 441 pixels per inch, the Samsung Galaxy S4's 5-inch display is sharper than the Apple iPhone 5s' 326 ppi. Furthermore, because of the AMOLED technology that Samsung uses, the display of the GS4 has this realistic and more vibrant look in various viewing angles.

When it comes to camera technology, the Samsung Galaxy S4 blows the iPhone 5S out of the water. It's 13MP shooter captures better image quality compared to the iPhone 5s' 8MP rear-facing camera. The Galaxy S4 does an impressive job for a smartphone camera by capturing finer details and taking photos that appear more vibrant and less saturated than the ones the iPhone 5s is capable of taking.

Battery life is another feature that consumers are always pinpointing as the key determinant in making their next smartphone purchase. The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes with a 2,600 mAh battery while the Apple iPhone 5s has 1,570 mAh of juice. Although by simply knowing their mAh capacity one can infer right away that the GS4 can last longer, in reality, the iPhone 5S isn't that bad when it comes to running the entire day. Perhaps this is due to the fact that the two devices have different operating systems. However, it is still undeniable that the Samsung Galaxy S4's battery life can last longer than that of the iPhone 5s.

Finally, the best thing about the Samsung Galaxy S4 is its expandable storage via microSD. This comes in handy for people who want that option of adding more space for their media files and whatnot in their smartphone. Meanwhile, the iPhone 5s continue the legacy of its predecessors when it comes to not having that expansion slot for external memory.
