An Allegiant Air flight was delayed longer than it would have taken for passengers to drive to their destination. The flight took off 11 hours behind schedule. The flight was only an hour and a half.
Flight 1032 was supposed to take off from Oakland International Airport at 9:30 a.m. to head to for Provo, Utah. However the plane had to be dragged back to the terminal as the plane had a problem with the nose gear. All the passengers had to disembark and go back to the terminal, CBS reports.
A replacement plane flew in and was supposed to leave at 4 p.m. but it also had a mechanical problem. A third plane got to the airport at 6:40 p.m. The passengers were quickly boarded on to the flight but the captain asked for additional fuel and the plane had to return to the gate before it left for Utah at 8:48 p,m. The plane didn't arrive in Provo until 10:22 p.m. A spokesman says the passengers were never stranded in the plane on the tarmac at any point of the ordeal.
The aircrafts that were used were Boeing MD 83s. "Every effort was made to keep the passengers as comfortable as possible, providing food and beverages, $100 dollars off vouchers and the option to cancel or reschedule the flight at no additional cost," the airline told CBS.
However pasengers don't believe that was enough to make up for how angry the ordeal made them. "I am outraged. This airline should go out of business immediately," a passenger told CBS. Another said they'll never fly with the airline again. "I'll probably tell everyone not to fly it, either."
Another passenger said it was it "cruel and unusual punishment. These people are so insensitive. Been 12 hours at the airport and it's ridiculous. They should be out of business."
It's not clear how many people were on the flight.
