Airline meals can be really good or really bad and usually passengers aren't given too much of a choice. Well one airline is trying to change that.
A low-cost Latvian airline is giving customers the chance to pick and choose their airline meal before they board the flight.
Air Baltic is the first airline in the world to adopt a "drag and drop" in-flight ordering system.
Starting in May, passengers who fly with Air Baltic will have up to 24 hours before their flight to log in to a program in which they can view a menu, drag items on to a virtual meal tray and essentially create their own meal that they'll be served on the flight.
The options aren't too shabby either. Some include Teriyaki salmon with garlic and potatoes for 9 Euros, a Greek salad with olive oil and lemon for 8 Euros, rye break for one Euro and a glass of 2003 Chateau Ausone red wine for 4 Euros, InFlight Feed reports.
The airline currently has 20 pre-order meal options. There are also four dietary options for those who must have gluten free, lactose free, vegetarian and kosher food.
When ordering the options, customers can also read about the dietary information such as how many calories or how much fat, sugar, or fiber is in an item.
"With passengers now being able to create their own inflight meal the possibilities are endless, they can fully customize their inflight meal tray to their liking," Janis Vanags VP of Corporate Communications at Air Baltic told the InFlight Feed Blog.
The ordering system also shows categories for breakfast, hot meals, cold meals, kids and more.
If you forget to order a meal in advance, you can still order a lasagna dish to be delivered to your seat 40 minutes before a flight.
