‘Your Name’ Earned Almost $3.4 Million After Two Weeks: TOHO Celebrates Its Most Profitable Year!

It's been two weeks since Makoto Shinkai's worldwide phenomenon anime movie, "Your Name" hit the North American theater but it seems that Mitsuha and Taki are far from finished. The internationally acclaimed masterpiece premiered at the Anime Expo 2016 convention in Los Angeles, California last July 3, 2016 and in Japan on August 26, 2016. As of the moment, the movie is hailed as the highest-grossing anime film of all time and the movie is still attracting lots of moviegoers in North America.

The North American release consisted of both Japanese with English subtitles and English dub versions of the film. The team behind the movie have also went for extra miles by making a bold move of making English versions of all the theme songs used in the film. In this way, the language barrier can be disregarded and non-anime fans will also enjoy and understand the film even without relying on the subtitles.

According to Anime News Network, Box Office Mojo updated the box office estimates of "Your Name" to $ 3,369,779 on USA and Canada on its second week. As of Sunday, the film ranked No.14 where it was shown in 292 theaters. When the movie debuted on April 7, it earned a whopping $1,813,781 and ranked No. 13 at the box office.

The movie may not be successful in its endeavors to nab an Academy Award however it captured the hearts of the masses because of its scenic animation and emotional impact. Other claimed that the wonderful movie made this world feel magical to the point of exploding with possibility as stated by Platform Nation.

Meanwhile, the film distributor behind the successful film, TOHO are now reaping the rewards of their hard work as they published their earnings report last Friday. In their latest report for the fiscal year that ended last February, it was revealed that the company has reached another record high, thanks partly to the huge success of "Your Name" and "Shin Godzilla." The company tallied an earning amounting to 50.2 billion yen ($463 million) which is a 23.4% increase that their previous reports.
