‘Your Name’ Soundtracks Translated Into English Versions For North American Debut

Makoto Shinkai's "Your Name" rocked the world to its very foundations not only with its breath-taking animations and story but also with its expressive soundtracks. With the movie's North American debut approaching, its a common practice for English anime publisher to retain the original Japanese vocals of the soundtrack. However, filmmakers of the hit movie is surprisingly taking a different route translating the soundtracks into English.

Translating Japanese song into English is not a new idea and few Western publishers have attempted to have an English versions of the soundtracks. However, the attempts receive little attention and are even mocked by the fans saying that the original message of the song was changed entirely. This forced the publishers to drop the idea and choose to keep the original soundtracks as reported by Rocket News 24.

The Japanese rock band RADWIMPS was tasked and personally chosen by Shinkai to handle the soundtracks of the film. The band with their frontman Yojiro Noda, created 27 songs dedicated only for the block buster film. According to Crunchy Roll, their music put another shade of colors to the film giving it a unique feel when compared to Studio Ghibli's works

The film will be making its way to American theaters in April 7 and the filmmakers are planning to have a different approach. To have a wider audience, they are planning to remove the Japanese versions of the soundtrack and replace it with English versions which will also be performed by RADWIMPS. In fact a preview had already been uploaded in showcasing four of the most popular tracks of the movie.

The sneak peek video featured the upbeat song "Zenzenzense" in its glorious English version. The trailer also showed some snippes of "Dream Lantern", "Nandemonaiya" and "Sparkle". The band is releasing a CD including all of the said tracks of the film which will be available on February 22.
