Raspberry Pi 3 Can Now Use Voice Assistant Microsoft Cortana Through The Windows 10 Creators Update

The rollout of the Windows 10 Creators Update has made Microsoft's voice assistant feature available to the Raspberry Pi 3. Users would just need to upgrade the designer or the developer board to the latest operating system update from Microsoft.

According to a report from ITWorld, the Cortana feature will work on the Raspberry Pi 3 in the same way it works on PC. People can ask it for a weather update, what time is it, traffic conditions, and so on.

The report said that users can even customize the voice commands and program them into the device. The program could then be related to reminders, events, dictionary, news, and more.

However, for users who want to build a device using the Raspberry Pi 3 and include the Microsoft Cortana, they need to be based on the Windows 10 IoT Core and not the Linux-based OS. Also, it's important for them to upgrade the developer board or the designer to the Creators Update OS.

The beauty of what Microsoft did here is that a lot of enthusiasts are having a hard time adding personal assistant in the device that they are building. But with the Creators Update to the Windows 10 IoT Core, the company had made it easier for a personal assistant feature to be installed.

The Science Times reports that this strategy can be translated to Microsoft's smart approach in countering the Amazon Alexa-smart home device. Amazon currently has the Amazon Echo and the Echo Dot as its smart home devices.

The only problem developers will have if their thinking of using the Cortana with the Windows 10 IoT Core is that the feature needs microphone and speakers. Currently, the Creators 10 Update only supports Logitech's S150 USB speakers.

For microphones, developers have three options to use and these are the Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000, the Sound Tech CM-1000USB Table Top Conference Meeting Microphone, and the Blue Microphones Snowball iCE Condenser. For more about the Raspberry Pi 3, check out the video below.
