‘Pokemon GO’ Leak Shows Added Features To The Gym And Possible Co-Op Features, Looking To Lure Players Back

It seems like Niantic is looking to get some of its "Pokemon GO" players back, and probably entice more new players as well, with a leaked update that's likely to roll out soon. The leak showed plans to add more features to the Gym and possibly a raid feature.

According to a report from Forbes, the leak came from some codes of the new patch that Niantic released, which provided minor fixes to the game. The code was able to show some phrases that hint on what would probably come next for the game's Gym.

"(Pokemon name) has fought hard and returned!," "(Pokemon name) lost a battle!," and "(Pokemon name) defended the Gym!)" are some of the phrases that are discovered. This shows that Niantic will likely update its current notification system, to let players know if their Pokemon defending a Gym is being attacked.

But that's not the only update, as phrases like "(Pokemon name) is hungry!," "(Pokemon name) a pick-me-up!," and "(Pokemon name) wants a berry!" also hints that "Pokemon GO" won't be able to just leave their Pokemon to defend a Gym, as they'll need to maintain them as well.

The report said that Niantic would probably want to prevent Gym stagnation and possibly prevent spoofers by requiring players to physically travel back to the Gym to feed their Pokemon. Aside from changes to the Gym, a co-op feature could also be coming in the form of a raid option.

The option would likely introduce more cooperation within teams of "Pokemon GO," especially when it comes to raiding Gyms, though there aren't many details about it yet since these are just leaks. Donklephant reports that these future updates could likely be Niantic's way of trying to lure back old players and attract new ones.

Though Niantic CEO John Hanke recently said that they have 65 million monthly active users, "Pokemon GO" still lost a lot of players following its peak after launching in July 2016. These features are likely their way of bringing back interest in the game, and it might just work for them.

No actual update yet has been given about these leaked features, but it's likely for Niantic to provide more details in the coming weeks or months. Check out the video below for more updates on "Pokemon GO."
