‘Queen Of The Desert’: Nicole Kidman Perfect To Play Gertrude Bell For Werner Herzog’s Film

The "Queen of the Desert" trailer was already released prior to its limited release in theaters. The trailer showed Nicole Kidman braving the heat and the sands to portray the role of Gertrude Bell. She is a fusion of different accomplishments in life - political officer, archaeologist, explorer, writer, cartographer, and traveler.

Bell dedicated her life to the Bedouin tribes in the desert in her twenties as per Entertainment Weekly. She went to Tehran in Persia (now called Iran) in search of a better life. During her journey, she met tribal leaders from the present day Middle East.

It is a fact that women are not given equal rights in Middle Eastern countries. She became an instrument of empowerment for women. She later became the most important representative in the British mandate of Iraq. She helped Iraq to become stable after its independence. Bell later earned the esteem of the Arabs which is amazing knowing that she is British.

The stellar cast is composed of Kidman, who is perfect for the role, Damian Lewis, James Franco, and "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson. The actor plays the love-interest of Bell named T.E. Lawrence who is famous in Arabia.

"Queen of the Desert" was shelved for two years but now it was revived as per AV Club. When it was released in 2015, it has participated in the 65th Berlin International Film Festival. It was shot in Morocco and Jordan and directed by Herzog who helmed "My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done?" With the success of "Moonlight," "Hacksaw Ridge," and "Hidden Figures" which are based on true stories, Herzog's team can hope that it will perform better this time.

Despite its poor box office performance when it was first released in 2015, Herzog, Nicole Kidman, and Robert Pattinson are hopeful that it can recover its losses during the first release. "Queen of the Desert" will hit the theaters on April 14, 2017.
