Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, and Reese Witherspoon form the cast of HBO's "Big Little Lies." Laura Dern, Zoe Kravitz, James Tupper, Adam Scott, Jeffrey Nordling, and the kids are all present to support the show.
"Big Little Lies" is a drama about family strife and mystery murder in a community in Monterey, California. Bruna Papandrea gave a glimpse of the story as she shared with Variety. She said, "Ultimately, the theme is what really lies beneath people's lives. I have not seen a story of female friendship and community represented that way, with so many complex women."
Liane Moriarty, author of the book where the show was adapted from said that the project is fused with varying elements that make it a masterpiece. Big Stars, the music, apt roles for the actresses' ability made it an exciting drama.
Nicole Kidman shared that the biggest takeaway from doing the show is gaining the four women who will become her best friends for life. Laura Dern agreed with Kidman saying that having them share the red carpet together, supporting each other is a great take away.
Shailene Woodley shared, "The beauty of working with a cast like this is that it was inter-generational; the weaving of wisdom is something we wouldn't have had otherwise."
The whole cast is appreciative of the directorial job done by Jean-Marc Vallee using hand held cameras and shoot continually giving up rehearsals. The result is like a live performance as the actors are constantly in character.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the premiere was a huge event. Show director Vallee said that the event seems to be for a movie and not for a TV show. In the same report, Shailene Woodley said that the show is about a community in Monterey where the super white and the elite dwell but their marital woes, their relationship problems are identical to the problems of the women in general.
The show was created by David Kelley. "Big Little Lies" will air on February 19 on HBO.
