‘Game Of Thrones’ Creators Hated The Melting Ice Gimmick Just Like The Fans

"Well, that was pathetic," a line that would have crossed the mind of every "Game of Thrones" fan after watching HBO's ice melting stunt. And they are not alone because as it turns out, the creators and actors themselves were horrified by the gimmick.

After Daenerys Targaryen's glorious scene in the season 6 finale, everyone was excited for any information regarding the upcoming season. So when it finally came to the big reveal of season 7's release date, fans expected something big.

Well, they did get something big. Whether it's exciting or not, that's another matter according to Gamespot. After all, what they got from HBO was a giant block of ice.

Apparently, someone thought it was a great idea to reveal the "Game of Thrones" release date by forcing fans to watch ice melt on Facebook live. With the boredom induced by such a task rivaled only by watching paint drying, you bet there's going to be consequences.

Showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have the same thought and they fear a massive fan backlash. The two were joined by actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who described the stunt as "embarrassing" according to The Daily Beast.

As expected, they were right as the internet exploded with so much hate for HBO's stunt. King Joffrey Baratheon and Ramsay Bolton, two of the most hated characters on "Game of Thrones" can now breathe a sigh of relief as fans' hate was redirected towards HBO. Fans were disappointed at the reveal which they call as "the biggest troll job in the world."

Still, it is not like the stunt will reduce season 7's viewership by a huge margin. The series' popularity has risen dramatically since it premiered 6 years ago. With only two seasons remaining, there is no doubt fans and recent converts will tune to HBO by the droves.

So what is the date that "Game of Thrones" fans watched a whole block of ice melt to find out? July 16, 2017 is the promised day where we will once again return to Westeros, with all its dragons, Dothraki, and dead Starks.
