The anthology series "American Crime Story" has finally cast the last of its main characters for its season 3. The next season of the Ryan Murphy series will focus on the murder of Gianni Versace, and an A-list actress has just been cast in the role of Donatella.
EconoTimes reports that none other than Academy-Award winner Penelope Cruz will be playing the role of Gianni's sister Donatella. The site elaborates that the mini-series will chronicle the lives of the siblings before and after the death of the famous designer.
Gianni Versace will be played by Edgar Ramirez while the role of his killer, Andrew Cunanan, will be played by Darren Criss, who gained fame after his stint in another Ryan Murphy series, "Glee." The series will also portray what happened after the murder, the manhunt for Cunanan, who ended up killing himself weeks after he committed the crime.
It seems that some were surprised when Cruz was announced for the role. Independent reports that many people actually expected Lady Gaga to play the character. This is because Murphy has stated before that the pop star would be perfect for the role.
Since it is not the first time that she has starred in a Ryan Murphy series, a lot of viewers expected that she would indeed be seen as Donatella Versace in season 3 of "American Crime Story." The season is actually being shot at the same time as the Hurricane Katrina focused season 2 of the series.
Season 3 of the series will be based on the book by Maureen Orth, with the title "Vulgar Favours." Meanwhile, season 4 is also being planned. It was already announced that this time it would focus on the Monica Lewinsky Scandal based on the book "A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President."
