It was announced earlier that the hit fantasy anime "No Game, No Life" will get a movie adaptation that will be titled "No Game, No Life Zero." The announcement was just accompanied by some key visual and a 30-second promotional video. It was revealed that the movie will be released this year but didn't mention what exactly it will be.
In the official website of the film, it was mentioned that additional information will be revealed on the stage event that will be held on March 26 as part of Anime Japan 2017. Kadokawa will be the one behind the show and it will feature the voice actor and actress for Sora, Shiro and Stephanie. The advertisement for the event posted at Tokyo's Kokusai Tenjijō station on the Rinkai line revealed that the film will be released on July 15 as reported by Anime News Network.
As stated in the promotional video, "No Game, No Life Zero" will be set over 6,000 years ago before the light novel's main story. It will show the fans about the history of the Disboard during the time when the land is engulfed in an endless war. Hopefully, the future event of Kadokawa will provide additional information regarding the movie's plot.
According to Crunchyroll, the author of the series, Thiago Furukawa Lucas of more popularly known as Yuu Kamiya gave a hint for the fans on his Twitter account. He mentioned that the characters in the key visuals was not the protagonist duo Sora and Shiro. He clarified that the ones on the image was Riku and Shuvi and that it's just hard to tell them apart because of their uncanny resemblance.
With that being said, it becomes clear that the movie will be a prequel of the anime series that was released last April 2014. Riku and Shuvi are key figures that lived during the war and they are the ones behind Tet's rise to power.
