It looks like there's still a possibility for "Girl Meets World" Season 4 to happen. The hit series' renewal, though, will likely have to depend on whether there will be enough demand for the show from the audiences.
In an interview with TVLine before season 3 aired its last episode, creator Michael Jacobs said that there were talks about airing season 4 on other networks. But these talks were just in the "very very beginning stages."
Jacobs said in the interview that the reason for the other networks' interest with the show is due to the reaction of the audience after it was announced that it will be canceled after season 3. He said that the shows that do it for the audience and actually "mean it" sustains longer than those who just do it for themselves.
The creator of "Girl Meets World" also said that the fans of the series are creating campaigns themselves to show their support for the series and to show their disappointment in its cancellation. Jacobs said a show having an audience is important to Networks, as gathering an audience is something they want to do.
"The fact that there is an audience who's been so loyal says a lot," he said. And the show does have an audience, as Deadline reported that the per episode average viewership of season 2 and season 3 ranges in the 1.7 million to 1.8 million.
The show was also Disney Channel's best-received series, having already being nominated as the best children's program a number of times. Despite all of these accolades, the report said that "Girl Meets World" had a serious flaw and that's Disney Channel caters to a younger audience.
Most of the series viewers came from the fans of "Boy Meets World," who have already aged. The series itself targets mostly the age bracket of 18-49, while Disney Channel's primary audience are between the ages of 6-14.
Though the show did well with the older teens and parents, it had a difficult time connecting to Disney's primary audience. The younger kids don't find the show relevant enough for them.
For "Girl Meets World" Season 4 to happen, it would need a network that would cater to its target audience. And since there's already a following for it, it's possible that season 4 could still see being aired on a different channel. Check out the ending scene for "Girl Meets World" Season 3.
