After almost a year and a half of waiting, the hit fantasy anime "Overlord" will be back for an exhilarating Season 2. The fans are patiently waiting after the epic finale where the Great Wizard Momonga faced his former subordinate Shalltear Bloodfallen. There are many questions and mysteries left behind in the first season and hopefully, the next chapter of the series will provide some game-changing answers.
After the series ended in September 2015, the show makers decided to make two theatrical adaptation of the anime. The first one is titled "Overlord: The Undead King" which premiered last February 25. The other one is "Overlord: The Dark Warrior" which hit the theaters on March 11 featuring the most awaited announcement for Season 2 as reported by Anime News Network.
The film adapted the name of the first two volumes of Kugane Maruyama's light novel series where the franchise was based. Aside from the scenes compiled from the anime, the film also features some added scenes and new characters designed by so-bin, the original illustrator of the light novels.
According to Comic Book, the 13-episode first season was aired in Japan in 2015 and was simulcast by Funimation. The company also released an English dubbed version on Blu-ray Disc and DVD that was released in November last year.
The story revolves around a hardcore player of the popular game Yggdrasil named Momonga. In the year 2138, the game was shut down. But because of his devotion to the game, he refused to log out of it. He then realized that he is now living inside the game as his character, a skeleton wizard and the NPCs of the game became realistic displaying human emotions. Confused by this turn of events, he will try to take control of this new world together with his loyal servants in a hope to find some answers as to why these events happened.
There is no further information regarding the release date for the Season 2 of "Overlord". Let's all just have to patiently wait for the show makers for their official announcements.
