A new hero will be taking on Superman in "Injustice 2" and this will one will surely give him a run for his money due to his vulnerability to magic. The new character is none other than Doctor Fate, a powerful sorcerer and an agent for the Lords of Order.
According to a report from Game Spot, the developer of the video game, NetherRealm Studios, revealed the new character to their roster. This will be the first time Doctor Fate will be playable in this video game.
The report adds that John Edwards, the designer for the video game, said Doctor Fate would be bringing something new to the line-up of characters, which he promised to be the largest that they've done. He said they want their characters to have "a lot of variety, especially in their moves and attacks." They don't want everyone to be just like Batman or Superman.
He also said that they added the sorcerer because they realized the game doesn't have a "predominant spellcasting, magic-based character." And the "most powerful magic user in the DC universe" is the perfect choice to add to the video game's growing roster.
As for the sorcerer's fighting style, Edwards say Doctor Fate is more of a ranged playstyle character and is able to use traps, allowing him to place ankhs in different places of the battlefield that can damage his enemies or heal him. Don't expect the sorcerer to have any straight physical attacks as well, which doesn't make him an ideal close-combat character.
Even if his not that good in close-combat, Doctor Fate will still give Superman problems, due to the Kryptonian's vulnerability to magic. Kotaku reports that they expect the sorcerer to do great things in "Injustice 2."
The report said that as powerful as Kal- El is, he can't really do anything against magic. But isn't the first time Doctor Fate appeared in the video game, as the ending for the first Injustice sees him appearing to help his fellow magician create the Tower of Fate, which is used as the base of operation against Superman. Check out the introduction video for the new character.
