Benedict Wong Reveals How He Was Able To Get Cast In 'Doctor Strange' Even Without An Agent

Joining the massive Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is no easy feature. Given the kind of movies they put out year after year and the legions of fans that scrutinize every casting choices, the process to get in is no doubt stringent. Which is why when Benedict Wong recently revealed that he was able to join last year's "Doctor Strange" as one of Kamartaj's sorcerers, even without an agent. This got everyone curious how he did it.

In preparation for the upcoming Blu-ray release of the trippy Marvel film, Wong sat down with Collider, to ask not just about the inner workings of the project, but also to find out how he was able to board the star-studded ship, on his own. Admitting that he is one of the few people in Hollywood who does not have a casting agent. Wong's story is a mixed of right opportunity at the right time.

"Well, in true form, I was having lunch with Chiwetel (Ejiofor) and I just asked what he was up to next," he recalled, referring to his co-British actor, who plays Benedict Cumberbatch's titular role friend and eventual enemy, Baron Mordo. "And then I was just typing in on the internet and I was looking at Doctor Strange stories, and then on the side was Wong popping out on the side, this character. I just, my jaw dropped, and I couldn't believe it, it's just so rare to see an Asian character in these comic books. And I just thought, well, I've got to get this role now."

Following his debut into the comic book movie genre, Wong is scheduled to also reprise his role as one of Strange's most trustworthy confidant in next year's "Avengers: Infinity War." The Marvel cumulative project will be bringing together almost everyone from the shared universe in what is tipped to be the biggest spectacle from the franchise thus far.

The 46-year-old actor is also expected to be a huge part of the "Doctor Strange" sequel which is tentatively scheduled for an MCU Phase 4 Slot. Meanwhile, the Scott Derrickson film will be available on Home Entertainment starting Feb. 28
