Shannen Doherty Marks Last Chemo, Now Plays 'Waiting Game'

Shannen Doherty is celebrating a little victory. People reports that two years after the former "Beverly Hills, 90210" star was first diagnosed with breast cancer, chemo treatment is finally complete. Posting an update on Instagram along with some pictures, Doherty wrote: "Last day of chemo. Exhausted."

With chemotherapy all done, only time will tell if she is indeed cancer-free. "Waiting to see if I'm clear or not. Waiting for reconstruction," the 45-year-old star confided.

Mirror revealed that Doherty had initial apprehensions on undergoing chemotherapy treatment shortly after she was diagnosed in February 2015. According to Breastcancer.org, the feeling of fear upon diagnosis is understandable.

The non-profit organization for breast awareness firmly advise through their official website that first and foremost, it is important for a woman to get checked regularly. The risk is greater if one has a family history of breast cancer. Albeit late, Doherty makes the best of her situation by now urging women to get a breast examination whenever she grants media interviews.

But every cloud has a silver lining. While Doherty regrets that it is impossible to have children at this point, she has been vocal in past media interviews that she is grateful to have a strong support group. Doherty singles out her husband Kurt Iswarienko in particular, for staying by her side all these years. The couple married in 2011.

The actress seems to appear emotionally stronger of late since her recent Instagram posts sounded more hopeful. "I think when one gets cancer, they are always waiting to a certain extent," Doherty wrote.

Much as Doherty is amazed at how far technology has improved considerably in the past few years, she knows it would still take a lot of time, money and research before a cure for cancer is available. Until then, there's really not much else for Doherty to do except wait and hope for the best.
